Bio
Aram Galstyan is Principal Scientist and director of the Machine Intelligence and Data Science group at USC's Information Sciences Institute. He is also a Research Professor at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering's Computer Science Department.
Galstyan’s work focuses on various problems at the intersection of machine learning, information theory and statistical physics. His research includes both theoretical effort and more application-oriented work that describe various real-world phenomena, with applications in computational social sciences, forecasting, and bioinformatics. His work has appeared in top venues in machine learning and AI research.
Galstyan's research has been supported by numerous agencies, including Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency (IARPA), National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Army Research Office (ARO). He is currently the PI for DARPA's Learning with Less Labels (LwLL) and IARPA’s Hybrid Forecasting Competition programs.
He earned his BS in physics from Yerevan State University, Armenia, and his PhD in theoretical condensed matter physics from the University of Utah.
