Facility interface considerations in testing KKV rocket propulsion technology((Kinetic Kill Vehicle))

Abstract

A facility designed by the Air Force Astronautics Laboratory to examine Kinetic Kill Vehicle (KKV) characteristics in a dynamic free flight environment in the Kinetic hovered interceptor is described. The objectives of the KHIT program, which is Phase V of the KEW divert propulsion component development and technology verification effort, include the development of a test facility to accommodate advanced integrated vehicle testing. The control console is discussed as well as the laser ranger tracking system, and hazardous materials handling. (K.K.)
