Abstract

Gauge is an environment for gaining an understanding of the performance of large logic programs. Gauge provides tools for designing and controlling a performance experiment, sophisticated database facilities for recording the results of experiments, and tools for analyzing and displaying performance data. This paper describes the philosophy, design, and implementation of Gauge and its use in analyzing programs.
