Abstract

This paper reports on a partial re-implementation of the Insight Q&A system with an emphasis on definition patterns as described in InsightSoft-M's paper at TREC-10. The experimental results leave open many questions on how the system could rank answer candidates with enough precision to achieve a score of 67.6. The re-implementation suggests that relatively simple surface patterns alone might not be sufficient in open-domain question answering.
