StereoBit on the SpaceCube Mini
Abstract
StereoBit is an application for the SpaceCube Mini space processor developed at NASA/GSFC. It embeds Structure from Motion (SfM) computer vision algorithms to track clouds in motion as seen by a multi-angle sensor such as the Compact Midwave Imaging System (CMIS). CMIS has forward-, aft-and nadir-looking bars of detectors oriented perpendicularly to the ground track. The three detector bars paint three swaths as the sensor advances in orbit. Disparities between the aft and nadir and forward and nadir image strips measure a combination of geometric parallax and motion (wind). Full observability of wind velocity and height in the atmospheric column is obtained by fusing observations made by the Low-Earth Orbiting (LEO) sensor and a geostationary satellite or two LEO satellites in a leader-follower configuration. StereoBit running on the SpaceCube Mini enables deployment of such sensors in a CubeSat …
