“AI is making outputs more accessible, forgetting the value of the process”

Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. After launching AI/nsiders in 2023 where he interviewed the ISI humans behind our AI research, he expands his quest to the other disciplines researched at ISI. Networking, cybersecurity, computing, microelectronics, quantum, space, ISI scientists have a lot to say about the state of their fields, their research topics, and how AI fits into them.
Maxyn Leitner, a Research Assistant at ISI, explains the importance of the internet for communities to share information. From tips on how to navigate staying positive while researching hate speech and misinformation online, to perspectives on the criticism some generative AI models have been facing, Adam and Maxyn explore how the online world has reacted to changes in the field of AI. Maxyn shares what it’s like to participate in Taiko drumming, and how the creative process involved in creating music relates to artificial intelligence. Listen to the episode below.
